The Account Manager reports directly to Chief Growth Officer and will be responsible for working closely with ~20 sellers, helping them build a bigger business through quarterly initiatives, identifying pain points from your sellers to impact Whop’s product, ensuring perfect product health for all sellers managed, and developing once-in-a-lifetime relationships with the sellers you work with
What does the role look like?
The Account Manager will report directly to the Chief Growth Officer, and will work alongside six other Account Managers. Your primary responsibility will be to retain the revenue for the sellers in your portfolio. Your Net Revenue Retention (NRR) benchmark ($300,000/quarter to start) is the total revenue generated from your book of accounts in the previous quarter. Outside of NRR, you will be measured on the product health of the sellers you manage, your impact on Whop’s product, and your overall relationship with each seller.
Account Managers are a strategic business partners helping their sellers build bigger businesses. The most important job of an Account Manager at Whop is building the strongest and most genuine relationships possible with our sellers. Through strong relationships, sellers should trust that they can rely on you for anything. A cornerstone of our success is our relationships with our sellers. Your job is to create and nurture relationships with Sellers in a way that makes Sellers view you as a cornerstone part of their success. Sellers should feel like you are instrumental in their success. Your strong relationships will help you to minimize seller churn.
Your secondary goal is to increase seller revenue. You’ll do this in three ways. First, you will work with your sellers to put together quarterly initiatives. Each initiative will have a different theme (growth, retention, or increasing the value of existing offerings); based on the theme, you’ll put 2-4 key initiatives together for each seller that you will accomplish for them. Second, you’ll ensure your sellers use Whop’s product most effectively. This means ensuring your sellers run a buttoned-up business (responding to all disputes, answering customer FAQs, handling resolution center cases, and more) and utilizing all recommended features (cancellation discounts, email campaigns, free trials if applicable). Third, you will surface ways we can improve Whop’s product. You will do this by identifying seller pain points and areas of improvement; communicating these pain points to our product team to determine how we can better our product and make the necessary improvements.
After kicking off a quarter, your time will be spent assisting the sellers in executing the initiatives you’ve set out for them. You will speak to your sellers bi-weekly to review how the initiatives are progressing, ensure they’re using all of Whop’s features correctly, and check in to understand how their business is going. Outside of bi-weekly calls, there will be ad-hoc scenarios where your sellers need your help. Whether it be a text during the business day or a Facetime after hours, you are expected to be ready to assist your sellers.
You’ll be given different tools and resources to hit your objectives. Your most significant resource will be a quarterly budget of 3% of your total NRR. The average AM at Whop’s NRR per quarter is $300,000, which equals a $9,000 quarterly budget. This budget should be solely spent on things that will better your relationship with your sellers. Do you want to fly to see a seller in person and take them out to dinner? You can do it! Is there a special occasion? Do you want to send a housewarming gift? You want to send a personalized birthday present? All of these examples are built into this budget. Additionally, you’ll be given a $500 quarterly software budget and direct access to the product team to take your feedback to them and work with them to implement it!
Your first 90 days will look like the following:
- Within 30 days, you will fully understand Whop’s product, how quarterly initiatives work, how you’re expected to impact Whop’s product, how to run an AM phone call, how to use our CRM, and you’ll have onboarded your first three sellers.
- Within 60 days, you will have added six new sellers and have nine sellers you’re managing.
- Within 90 days, you will have added the final six sellers and have 15 sellers you’re managing now.
Who you are
At Whop, we build world-class relationships with our sellers. You’re someone who could walk into an ambiguous situation with a group of strangers and be able to figure things out and become friends with everyone. You are someone who is extremely curious. You like to hear people's story and develop rapport with new people you meet quickly. You will be expected to become extremely close and build strong relationships with all the sellers you manage at Whop.
Whop is changing the world. The company is growing 10x YoY; you will be expected to work with urgency, be proactive, and accomplish your goals and objectives through a can do attitude and effort.
Whop is a complex product. With that, you are expected to be a swift learner. You’re someone who has either had their own business within the space or has worked at a company that services internet entrepreneurs in some aspect. You’re should be extremely product-minded. You must read between the lines and get to the root issue. A famous Henry T Ford quote goes, “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” We do not expect you to ask sellers what they want; we expect you to deeply understand our sellers and their pain points so we can put together the best solutions for them.
Given that this is not a traditional AM job where you upsell clients, you need to be excited about the products sold on Whop and the sellers on Whop as entrepreneurs and people. The Account Managers at Whop who have succeeded the most are the ones who love the sellers they work with as people and are excited about the products they’re building.
