Role Description
We’re looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to improve how we use data to explore potential investment areas and support our portfolio companies. On the engineering team, you will work closely with our investment, portfolio and talent team members in building world-class software.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to combine insights from various heterogeneous data sources: web and social media, transactional data, and time series such as web traffic and user engagement metrics. You will also work with the investment team on technical diligence, as well as support portfolio companies through both competitive intelligence and direct advising.
What you’ll be doing:
- Building data pipelines to integrate data sources and improve data quality for our internal systems
- Developing and improving various ML models to help our firm research and find startups and the people who work at them
- Extracting, processing, and analyzing large volumes of unstructured data using distributed computing tools
- Partnering with investors, portfolio support, and other engineers to ship features for our internal platform, Beacon
Your background:
- Minimum 3 years of machine learning development or in a similar capacity.
- Proficiency in Spark and Python as these are key to this position.
- Previous experience with supervised, time series, and unsupervised learning methods would provide a strong advantage.
- Familiarity with languages such as Scala and Ruby along with Rails framework is a bonus.
- Mathematical background in algorithms, linear algebra, probability theory and statistics
- Familiarity with the AWS toolchain and various software development tools: S3, EC2, RDS, EMR, Git, etc.
- Relational databases: expertise with SQL, practical experience maintaining large relational databases
- Masters or PhD preferred, but not required
- Interest in the venture capital industry and working directly with early-stage startups
- San Francisco or NYC-based

Compensation
$250,000-$350,000 based on experience
