Why we need you
We're looking for a Strategic Finance & Operations Senior Associate to join as a foundational member of the Finance & Strategy function at Mandolin. You'll work directly alongside the Chief of Staff to the CEO, operating across strategic finance, financial operations, analytics, and compliance.
You'll be building models that shape company direction, producing materials that go in front of our board and investors, maintaining the financial and operational infrastructure that keeps the business running cleanly, and creating the analytical visibility that leadership relies on to make decisions. You'll own workstreams end to end while collaborating across every function in the company.
This role is ideal for someone who is energized by operating across altitude levels — moving from a detailed reconciliation in the morning to a board-ready financial narrative in the afternoon — and who takes pride in building systems and processes that didn't exist before they arrived.
What's in it for you
Direct exposure to CEO and investor-level strategy at a Series A company approaching its next inflection point
Foundational role in building out the Finance & Strategy function — your fingerprints will be on the infrastructure that scales with the company
Opportunity to grow into a Lead or Manager role as the function expands
Work across every part of the business — engineering, product, sales, marketing, customer operations — with meaningful context on how the entire company operates
What you’ll do
Strategic Finance & Financial Modeling
Build, maintain, and iterate on financial models including runway scenarios, burn analysis, revenue projections, and growth forecasting
Support budgeting, forecasting, and re-forecasting cycles with timely, accurate analysis
Conduct unit economics, margin structure, and operational efficiency analyses to surface actionable insights
Prepare financial analyses that inform pricing strategy, revenue roadmap, and resource allocation decisions
Board, Fundraising & Investor Support
Support data room construction and due diligence preparation as the company approaches its Series B
Ensure financial data, metrics, and narratives are accurate, current, and investor-ready
Analytics & Business Intelligence
Build and maintain dashboards and reporting infrastructure that give leadership real-time visibility into key business metrics
Develop and standardize KPI tracking across the organization
Support competitive landscape analysis with data gathering, structuring, and synthesis
Finance Operations
Own day-to-day invoicing, billing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable processes
Establish and maintain clean, auditable financial operations workflows
Identify inefficiencies in finance operations and implement process improvements
Accounting, Tax & Compliance
Serve as the primary point of contact with external accounting and tax partners
Ensure monthly/quarterly actuals are current, data requests are fulfilled promptly, and all filings are completed on time
Maintain compliance across state registrations, workers' compensation insurance, excise taxes, and business licensing
Track deadlines, flag risks proactively, and maintain an organized compliance calendar
Vendor & Contract Support
Support vendor evaluations, contract reviews, and ongoing relationship management
Track vendor performance and costs to ensure alignment with budget and operational needs
Must-have experience
3–5 years of experience in strategic finance, investment banking, management consulting, finance operations, business operations, or a comparable analytical role — startup finance/bizops experience strongly preferred, strategic finance, investment banking and/or consulting experience valued
Advanced financial modeling skills — you can build a three-statement model, a scenario analysis, or a unit economics framework from a blank spreadsheet without hand-holding
Operational finance fluency — you understand how AP/AR, invoicing, billing cycles, and month-end close processes work and have either owned or been close to them
Comfort managing external partners — you've worked with accountants, tax advisors, legal counsel, or similar vendors and can hold them accountable to timelines and deliverables
Strong working knowledge of compliance fundamentals — state registrations, tax filings, insurance requirements — or the demonstrated ability to learn regulatory frameworks quickly and manage them precisely
Dashboard and BI tool experience — you've built reporting infrastructure (Excel/Sheets at minimum; experience with Looker is a plus)
Exceptional attention to detail paired with the ability to move fast — you can produce board-ready work under time pressure without sacrificing accuracy
Clear written and verbal communication — you'll be producing materials for the CEO, board members, and investors; your financial storytelling needs to be sharp
High ownership mentality — this role has significant autonomy; you need to be someone who tracks your own deadlines, flags issues before they become problems, and takes pride in making the people around you more effective
Low Ego + Willingness to flex — responsibilities for this role entail your entire scope as of now, not what you will be spending most of your time on during a given week. Your scope may change, or you may be heads down on what feels like busy work for an entire week. Be willing to flex and fill gaps reliably and efficiently — we’re depending on you
Nice-to-haves
Have experience in AI, healthcare, biotech, or regulated industries.
Compensation Range: $140K - $190K
