We are seeking a skilled software engineer to join our on-device team and help us achieve our ambitious goals. The main responsibility of this role is to develop cutting-edge technology that will be deployed to the devices of millions of users. As a member of the on-device team at Grammarly, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our product teams, integrate with their work, and leverage their expertise. Additionally, you will work with our research team to implement cutting-edge ideas in the field of natural language processing and on-device machine learning.

Grammarly’s engineers and researchers have the freedom to innovate and uncover breakthroughs—and, in turn, influence our product roadmap. Your impact

As a member of the on-device team, your primary responsibility is to work on machine learning on Edge, which is the latest trend in machine learning. You will…

• Collaborate with elite engineers, including some of the company's most senior engineers, to develop a highly optimized version of our product.
• Significantly enhance the security and privacy of our users through the new version of our product.
• Deploy the results of your work to millions of user devices, improving the lives of people around the world.

We’re looking for someone who

• Embodies our EAGER values—is ethical, adaptable, gritty, empathetic, and remarkable.
• Is able to collaborate in person 2 weeks per quarter, traveling if necessary to the hub where the team is based.
• Has deep and broad expertise in modern natural language understanding and on-device software development.
• Is proficient in multiple dev environments: Python, C++, Rust, Java/Kotlin, objC/Swift.
• Has experience in development for many platforms: Linux, Android, Apple, Windows, and cross-platform development.
• Has enough experience with academic research to collaborate with researchers, and be comfortable reading and implementing papers to reproduce their results.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US and Canada locations are categorized into compensation zones based on each geographic region’s cost of labor index. Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future.
