Affiniti is building the AI financial operating system for the backbone of the American economy: independent pharmacies, HVAC businesses, contractors, veterinary practices, auto dealers, med spas, and the millions of small and midsize businesses that keep the country running.
These businesses generate enormous economic value, but most do not have dedicated finance teams, modern back-office tools, or the real-time visibility that larger companies take for granted. We are changing that.
Affiniti brings banking, cards, payments, expense management, accounting automation, and live financial intelligence into one platform built specifically for traditional SMB industries. Today, thousands of businesses use Affiniti to run their finances. Many of them are using business financial software like this for the first time.
That makes design one of the most important jobs in the company.

About This Role

We are looking for a Technical Product Designer to set the bar for how Affiniti feels, works, and earns trust.
You will design the financial interface that small business owners use to understand their cash, control spending, manage cards, automate back-office work, and make better decisions. For many of our customers, Affiniti may be the best software experience they have ever had with their business finances. That bar is yours to set.
This is not a role for someone who wants to stay safely inside Figma. You will work directly with engineers, product leadership, and customers to turn complex financial workflows into interfaces that feel obvious. You should be comfortable moving from ambiguous product problem to user journey, wireframe, prototype, design system component, implementation QA, and shipped product.
The right person has exceptional taste, strong systems thinking, technical fluency, and a high-ownership mentality. You notice when something feels off before anyone else can name it, and you can explain why clearly enough to bring engineers, founders, and customers with you.

Key Responsibilities

Design end-to-end product experiences across Affiniti’s core banking, card, payments, expense management, cash flow, accounting automation, and financial intelligence surfaces.
Turn dense financial workflows into simple, trustworthy interfaces for business owners who do not have time to decode software, read tooltips, or become finance experts.
Partner directly with engineers from concept through production. You will understand technical constraints, make smart tradeoffs, QA your own work, and close the gap between what was designed and what actually ships.
Design AI-native financial experiences that explain complex logic, automation, recommendations, edge cases, and business insights in a way that feels transparent and useful.
Map and improve critical user journeys, including onboarding, card issuing and management, spend controls, transaction review, cash-flow visibility, bill pay, financial insights, and back-office automation.
Conduct direct user research with small business owners across Affiniti’s core verticals, including pharmacies, HVAC businesses, contractors, veterinary practices, auto dealers, and other traditional industries.
Build and maintain a scalable design system that helps the team ship faster without sacrificing quality, consistency, accessibility, or trust.
Raise the product quality bar across the company by giving precise feedback, challenging weak assumptions, and pushing for simpler, clearer, better interfaces.

Qualifications

Exceptional product and visual judgment. Your portfolio shows strong hierarchy, interaction design, information architecture, and visual polish. You know when an interface feels wrong, and you can articulate exactly why.
Technical fluency. You have written HTML/CSS, can read a React component, understand how frontend systems are built, and can collaborate with engineers at the implementation level.
Strong systems thinking. You can hold a complex, multi-step product problem in your head, reason through ambiguous requirements, identify the underlying structure, and turn it into a clear user experience.
Taste for simplicity. You can make complicated financial workflows feel calm, obvious, and trustworthy without hiding important context or edge cases.
High Figma proficiency. You can move quickly from rough flows to high-fidelity prototypes, build reusable components, maintain design system quality, and create artifacts engineers can actually use.
Customer obsession. You care about the independent business owner who is reviewing transactions at 10 p.m., trying to make payroll, or figuring out where cash is going. You design for the real customer, not an abstract persona.
High ownership. You do not see design as “making screens.” You see it as owning the quality of the customer experience until it ships and works.
Clear communication and conviction. You can defend a design decision, change your mind when the evidence is better, and push back when something is not good enough.

Bonus Points

Experience designing fintech, banking, payments, accounting, expense management, lending, or other trust-sensitive financial products.
Experience designing AI-native workflows, data-heavy interfaces, dashboards, recommendations, or automation systems.
Experience working in a fast-moving startup where you had to build from zero to one.
Experience contributing to frontend implementation, design systems, component libraries, or production QA.
Experience designing for non-technical users in operationally complex industries.

What Makes This Role Different

Most financial software is designed for finance teams. Affiniti is building for business owners who are busy running pharmacies, HVAC companies, vet practices, dealerships, clinics, and local service businesses.
That means the product has to be powerful without feeling complicated. It has to expose financial intelligence without overwhelming the user. It has to handle compliance, risk, payments, card controls, accounting workflows, and edge cases while still feeling simple enough to trust immediately.
You will have unusual leverage here. The design decisions you make will shape how thousands, and eventually millions, of business owners understand and control their finances.

You’ll Thrive Here If

You want to work close to the metal with engineers.
You like messy, ambiguous product problems.
You care about craft, speed, and business impact.
You are energized by customers who are not “software people.”
You want ownership, not process for the sake of process.
You would rather ship, learn, and improve than debate endlessly.
You believe small businesses deserve software as good as anything built for large enterprises.

This Role Is Probably Not for You If

You want a narrow design role with clean handoffs.
You prefer to work far away from implementation details.
You need every requirement to be fully defined before you start.
You are uncomfortable with direct feedback, urgency, or high expectations.
You are not excited by financial products, complex systems, or traditional SMB industries.
